Get Into the Holiday Spirit With This Gingerbread White Russian Recipe
While this Gingerbread White Russian is a concoction all my own, the traditional White Russian cocktail has been around since the 1950s, but its popularity skyrocketed in 1998 when it was featured in The Big Lebowski.
The origin story of the White Russian is murky at best. Some say it originated in Belgium or France during the late 19th century while others believe that it was created by bartenders working in Hollywood during World War II.
Whatever its origins may be, one thing is certain: this delicious drink has been enjoyed by millions over the past few decades. Whether you’re enjoying it with friends or just indulging yourself after a long day, there’s no denying that this timeless classic will always bring joy to those who try it!
Gingerbread White Russian cocktails are best served during the winter holiday season. They make an excellent addition to any party or gathering, and they can be enjoyed by those who prefer a creamy, sweet cocktail.
A classic combination of vodka, coffee liqueur and cream, this creamy concoction is perfect for sipping on a cold winter night. But you can enjoy it whenever the mood strikes!
Ingredients to Make a Gingerbread White Russian Cocktail
As with any cocktail, no matter how easy, there are some ingredients required to make it unique. In this case, I have your ingredients lined up right here:
- 1oz (â…› cup) Vodka
- 1 ½ oz (3Tbsp) Kahlua
- 2oz (¼ cup) Cream
- ½ Tsp. Gingerbread Spice
How to Make a Gingerbread White Russian Cocktail
Mix together Gingerbread Spice and a little bit of Cream to make a slurry.
Measure out each ingredient and add into glass.
In glass combine vodka, Kahlua and cream mixture, stir together.
Is This Gingerbread White Russian a Vegan Cocktail?
No, this recipe does include cream and Kahlua which is not vegan friendly. However there are some options to make it a vegan drink.
Kahlua can be replaced with "Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy" which has confirmed that the company uses no animal products and by simply changing out the cream with coconut cream you can accomplish a vegan Gingerbread White Russian, yum!
Is This Gingerbread White Russian a Gluten-Free Cocktail?
Yes, this gingerbread white russian is gluten-free. All of the ingredients are naturally gluten-free, except for the optional garnishes which you can choose as you like. I chose gingerbread cookies, which are not gluten-free.
What are Some Simple Variations on the White Russian Cocktail?
A really simple variation to this drink recipe is to change out the spice. Drop the spice altogether and make a Vanilla White Russian. Or, we can change out Gingerbread for Pumpkin Spice, Apple Pie Spice and even simpler ingredient is Cinnamon alone.
After brainstorming a bit, I came up with some epic White Russian cocktail variations that I am sure would be so very awesome:
- Caramel White Russian
- Buttered Rum White Russian
- Espresso White Russian
- Caramel Macchiato White Russian
- Creme Brulee White Russian
- Chocolate Coconut White Russian
- Irish Cream White Russian
- Nutella and Marshmallow White Russian
- Orange Spice Latte White Russian
- Salted Caramel Mocha White Russian
- Mango Pineapple Tropical Twist
How Do You Serve White Russian Cocktails?
With the cream in this recipe, I would definitely serve this one chilled by placing ingredients in shaker cup with ice cubes, one might even put it over ice.
White Russian cocktails are traditionally served in an old-fashioned glass or a rocks glass over ice, so that tracks.
Garnishes can also be added to make the drink more interesting. For example, try adding maraschino cherries or a candy cane for color and flavor.
How Can I Make This a Stronger Cocktail?
Adding in another ounce of Vodka might do the trick, having a little fun I might even add in an ounce of vanilla Vodka to get the flavor profile with the strength.
For an even stronger drink, try adding a shot of espresso. This will give the cocktail a nice caffeinated boost as well as a great flavor!
Alternatively, you can add more kahlua or cream to make your White Russian even thicker and richer in flavor without increasing the alcohol content.
