I love margaritas and chicken wings. Then there is my love for my Big Green Egg. Combine these three loves together and get grilled margarita chicken wings. Just like a margarita, they are full of citrus, tang, and salt. And like anything off the Big Green Egg, they are also smoky. These margarita chicken wings are my new favorite thing to grill this summer.
Grilled Margarita Chicken Wings are marinated in tequila, lime and orange juices, chipotle seasoning and salt and then grilled or smoked to perfection.
Grilled Margarita Chicken Wings
Now, I am a chicken wing fan but really prefer the drumettes. Luckily, Kroger offers frozen chicken drumettes on the regular. To make these wings, marinade them in a combination of tequila, orange juice, and lime juice.
You will want to use equal parts of lime juice, orange juice, and tequila.
Pour the tequila and citrus juice combination over the wings in a Ziploc bag. To the chicken wings and marinade add margarita salt and bold chipotle seasoning. Seal the bag and shake to cover and coat the wings with the juices and the seasonings. Let marinade for two to eight hours.
When you are ready to grill the wings, get the grill hot at between 250-300 degrees. Season the wings with more bold chipotle seasoning.
Grill the wings, flipping them occasionally. Cook a bit more over indirect heat to keep the wings from getting too burnt. When the wings are fully cooked they will have an internal temp of 165 degrees and juices running clear.
When you plate the chicken wings are plated up garnish with lime juice and cilantro if you have some available. While many times I dip wings in ranch or blue cheese dressing, the lime juice was just enough and no ranch dressing needed!
Be sure to have plenty of wings ready, kids and adults will both love these wings. You will not want to run short on these margarita wings. Be sure to make a few spicy pineapple margaritas to go along with the wings.
